Should a dining bench fit under the table?

One of the many benefits of choosing a bench for dinner table seating is the space-saving features. A bench seat can fit neatly under a dining table if the width is such that it sits between the dining table corner legs, or the table has pedestal legs.

Dining benches are perfect kitchen table seating for this reason, reducing the floor space needed for a dining suite. As kitchen tables are often used for more than just dining, the tabletop is easier to access when you have dining benches as high-backed dining chairs can sometimes be obstructive.
