Dare To Add Flair With Dining Bench Seats
Dining room bench seats are the perfect way to add a little flair, flexibility and fabulous functionality to dining room furniture. Other than the visual differences, dining benches provide a range of benefits not found with dining chairs.
What is a dining bench?
A dining bench is dinner table seating which offers an interesting alternative or accompaniment to traditional dining room chairs. Bench seats have no arms and are designed as one long seat suitable for a number of people. Typically bench seats don’t have back rests either, but some dining bench designs do incorporate a low back for comfort.
Together with your dining room table, dining room bench seats can be configured in a range of ways:
- A dining table with bench seats only
- A dining table with bench and chairs on opposite sides
- A wooden dining bench with added seat cushions for comfort
- An upholstered dining bench with back rest, sometimes called a dining sofa bench seat.
What size should a dining bench be?
Benches for dining tables typically seat either two or three people, of course offering that fabulous flexibility to seat more people around a dining table than individual chairs. They’re a great alternative to 6 seater dining table sets, providing families with dinner table seating for several children.
The length of dining bench seats vary to suit dining tables of different sizes. You might choose a 2 seater dining bench for your smaller dining table, or a wide bench with 3 seats for larger dining tables. Other options include 4 seater dining sets and 8 seater dining sets.
Our collection of modern benches for dining tables span about 1300mm to 2000mm, like the beautiful La Salle MK2 dining bench seat.
Dining bench seat heights from floor to seat are the same as dining chairs, ranging between about 450mm to 500mm high to provide the optimum reach to the dining table.
Can you buy dining suites with bench seats?
Yes, our exciting range of dining room furniture includes popular dining suites such as the Silverwood and the La Salle collections with bench seat options.
The Silverwood dining bench and the La Salle dining bench can be used with matching dining tables and matching dining chairs, or you might choose two bench seats and no dining chairs. The Silverwood and La Salle collections also incorporate matching living roomand dining room furniture for a complete set.
Should a dining bench fit under the table?
One of the many benefits of choosing a bench for dinner table seating is the space-saving features. A bench seat can fit neatly under a dining table if the width is such that it sits between the dining table corner legs, or the table has pedestal legs.
Dining benches are perfect kitchen table seating for this reason, reducing the floor space needed for a dining suite. As kitchen tables are often used for more than just dining, the tabletop is easier to access when you have dining benches as high-backed dining chairs can sometimes be obstructive.
How do you make a dining bench more comfortable?
Upholstered dining bench seats are a comfortable option, especially a dining bench with back rest. If your wooden dining bench seats need some cushioning you can add bench cushions for comfort and colour!
