Amart Furniture is excited to partner with real living stylist Jackie Brown to bring you the latest looks for your home with the Smart Styling series. In the September edition, Jackie demonstrates how to style a nautical-themed bedroom. On this page you'll find the products Jackie used to create the stunning look you see above.
Want to bring a relaxed, seaside resort feel to your bedroom? Jackie's top tip is to start with a white base, as it beautifully complements other hallmarks of nautical design, such as raw timbers, blue accents, touches of leather, and rattan and glass accessories. The Cloud bed used above is a perfect example of a white centrepiece around which other pieces can fit – it has a moulding detail on the headboard and the feet which lends itself nicely to a more refined coastal style.
When it comes to other key pieces, Jackie suggests looking for bedside tables that match the bed, such as the Cloud 2 drawer bedside chests shown here. To add contrast to the room, opt for a textured rug in a natural material, like the Natural Jute handmade rug seen above.
Afraid you'll go overboard with the styling? Jackie likes to substitute the usual red and blue with tan and shades of charcoal or aqua. Stripes are a good idea, but remember to keep them in a bold colours, like the blue and white Newport cushions Jackie has chosen to put the finishing touch on the set-up.
Jackie's top tips for creating a breezy nautical bedroom on a budget:
- Remind yourself of the colours of the ocean by stacking up books that have covers in different shades of blue
- Go minimalist and choose green for your floral arrangements – simple blooms and leaves, or succulents will look best
- Get creative and hang a decorative piece of fishing or sporting gear on the wall, such as a net, oar, paddle, or wooden surfboard.
