Amart Furniture is excited to partner with stylist Jackie Brown to bring you the latest looks for your home with the Smart Styling series. In the February edition, Jackie demonstrates how to style an industrial office with a fresh touch. Whether it's a commercial or home office, Jackie's clever use of furniture and decorative items can easily be incorporated into your space to encourage creativity and efficiency. On this page you'll find the products Jackie used to create the delightful look you see above.
So where to start? Jackie says that a fabulous desk should be one of the key features of your office space. Large scale furniture work really well for the industrial style, so look for sturdy pieces in a rustic timber before adding metal accents for contrast. The Silverwood desk is a chic and functional option that pairs really well with the Rocket dining chair and City2 1850 bench seat, but remember to work the furniture to your space. If you need to move around a lot or host meetings in the office, consider placing a desk in the middle of the floor for easy access. It also works to line up multiple desks across the wall if space is at a premium – this lends itself to a more commercial look.
In any case, Jackie says to place storage nearby so that any paperwork is easily reached. In the room pictured above, she's lined up three of the Silverwood bookcases for open shelving that showcases accessories and greenery to complement the rest of the room. Jackie particularly loves a fiddle-leaf fig tree for indoors, and believes that ferns are a perfect way to offset the harder materials and surfaces. Stylish homewares then finish the look – books, vintage accessories, magazines and storage boxes fill the bookcases while artworks lean casually against the wall to make for a casual and balanced vibe. The key here is to mix and match smaller items but tie it all together with big pieces to create an inspiring and functional space.
These are Jackie's top tips for styling your industrial office on a budget:
- Stack up your favourite magazines to create a plinth for artworks
- Create a simple moodboard by taping a few images to the wall – it's an easy way to decorate
- Mix in homewares with your office files to add character
- Mix up your seating with stools, dining chairs and bench seats – if you have a mishmash of chairs, that will work just fine.
